Issue Summary
After changes have been made to the Software Under Test (SUT) the existing tests either no longer run or give incorrect results. It takes more effort to adapt the existing scripts than to start again

More specific issues
  • BRITTLE SCRIPTS: Even minor changes to the Software Under Test (SUT) force you to update the automation scripts so that you have to spend much too much time just reworking scripts that you though were done
  • HARD-TO-AUTOMATE: The SUT itself makes automation difficult.
  • SUT REMAKE: By substantial changes to the SUT you will not be able to avoid reworking your scripts. In fact it can be the right time to switch to a better tool or a better test automation architecture
  • TOOL DEPENDENCY: Changes to the automation tool(s) (for instance some component in the SUT is no longer supported) or the use of new components that are not supported by the tool will force you to update the automation scripts. You may even consider switching to a more fitting tool
